What characteristics should a video projector have?

The projector has become a powerful ally for businesses to make working hours more productive. It is therefore important to invest your budget wisely.

With these 5 features, you will ensure that the projector you choose will meet all your needs.

1. DLP or LCD technology?

You should know that all projectors on the market work with one of the following technologies: DLP or LCD ; Among them, DLP technology has greater qualities because it offers:

  • More colors (it has RGB and CMYK color gamut), so you can reproduce your graphics and presentations with greater clarity.
  • Greater contrast , giving you a very obvious difference between blacks and whites.
  • Less color degradation during the life of your projector.
  • Less spending Because DLP projectors do not require filters since their optical system is sealed, this translates into a lower investment in maintenance.

2. Native or dynamic contrast?

You probably need a noticeable color contrast so that your collaborators or the audience you are presenting to do not get bored and are attentive. To achieve this, it is important to choose a projector with high native contrast.

Native contrast is the actual contrast your projector can give you without trying to get the colors with other procedures, unlike dynamic contrast which gets the colors using some "tricks" so to speak.

If the feature description says high contrast level, but it is dynamic, then it is very likely that you do not have the appropriate contrast levels you need, as shown in the following image.

3. High or low resolution?

Resolution is the number of pixels – which are tiny points of light – that can be reproduced in a given space. These are expressed using two numbers: the width and height in pixels. The higher the number of pixels, the higher the resolution of the image.

If you are considering buying a projector, you will first need to know the resolution of the video or images you are going to display, for example Full HD or 4K for videos. In the case of an office, a low resolution will be more than enough since what you will probably be projecting will be graphics or documents that do not require a lot of detail.

Therefore, for office use we recommend low resolutions such as SVGA (800×600 pixels) or slightly higher resolutions such as Full HD (1920x1080 pixels).

4. Lots of lumens or few lumens?

Lumens are the amount of light generated by your projector's lamp. The higher the number, the more light the lamp can emit.

Regularly, in offices, the amount of light in the spaces is important, so you need a high brightness projector. That is to say a projector between 4,000 and 5,000 lumens that can overcome ambient light.

5. Short shot or long shot?

Projection is the distance you can place your computer to generate a certain screen size. The choice of the type of blanket, whether regular, short or ultra short will depend on the space of the room where you will place it.
